Places of Interest in Nepal

The places of tourist interest in Nepal are so many that one always tends to forget a few. Most of the popular ones are within the reach of Tourist. Each year new destinations are added but due to the rugged terrain and distances one has to travel a lot or go for a longer holiday trip. The advantage of Nepal over Bhutan is the network of airways. Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini, Dhulikhel, Nagrakot, Gosainkunda are some of the most sought after destinations. Some places of interest are Gorkha, Janakpur, Tansen, Kakani, Daman, Bandipur Village, Pokhara, Hile, Gosainkunda, Charikot, Chepang Village, Muktinath, etc. Then there are Manang, Helambu, Namche Bazaar, Ilam, Devghat, Biratnagar, Sirubari Village, Baglung are some of the other places worth visiting. Adventures are many like trekking in Himalayas, River Rafting Tours, Wildlife Safari Tours, Mountain Flight and other such adventure sports are some of the activities guest can enjoy while visiting this region. The famous Everest Region Trek, Annapurna Region Trek and Langtang Region Treks are also attractions of tourist and trekkers in Nepal.

 

Kathmandu
Kathmandu is the capital city and the center of all activities in Nepal. Lovely nightlife and brisk trading center acts as the life line of Nepal.  It is a cosmopolitan city and is also known as the city of Temples, each one of the temples has their own heritage and historical stories. All these great temples are worth visiting and each one of them have historical, architectural and religious importance attached. Most of the trek / tour and adventure originate from the city of Kathmandu. In the year 1979 The Durbar Square was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO. The places of interest inside this capital city are  many some of them are Hanuman Dhoka or the Durbar Square, Machchhendrananth Temple, Kumari Ghar or the temple of Kumari, Narayanhity Durbar, Singha Durbar, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, Balaju Water Garden, Budhanil kantha, Pashupatinath Temple, Dakshinkali, Changu Narayan Temple, , etc. One can also visit National Museum, Natural History Museum and many more places of interest nearby.

 

Patan
Bhaktapur and Kathmandu is situated in the Kathmandu valley. When touring Nepal it is routine for the tourist to visit these colorful valley along with Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. Like Bhaktapur this city of Patan is also brilliant with beautiful temples and stupas all around the place. It is one of the most popular destinations along with Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. One can spend a week in this valley for this three famous tourist town of the valley. Patan is again known for its fine arts and beautiful scenic beauty. It also serves as the shopping hub of traditional handicrafts and carpets. Temples of Hindus and Buddhist monuments are worth visiting. In 1979 Patan Durbar Square was declared as one of the seven monuments by the World Heritage zones by UNESCO. Patan Durbar Square is the main attractions of visitors. Worth visiting in Patan are the Buddhist monasteries known as Iba Bahi, Golden temple called Kwa Bahal, Mahabouddha, Oku Bahal, and Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Tibetan Refugee Camp and the Patan Museum.

 

Bhaktapur
This destination is situated in the neighboring town of Kathmandu. Bhaktapur literally means the city of Rice in Nepali or the City of Devotees in Newari. It is famous for its pagoda style architecture which is worth visiting. Bhaktapur, Patan and Kathmandu are the three famous tourist town of the Kathmandu valley. It has no traffic virtually hence is best on foot. The roads link the string of temples, courtyards and monumental squares. The side streets are full of shrines, wells and water tanks. The pond of historical importance called Siddha Pukhu or Ta phuku is nearby. Potter's Square, Dattatreya Square National with the National Woodworking Museum, Taumadhi Square and Durbar Square housing are worth visiting. The National Art Gallery is also the places of importance tourist can come across. The colorful town and its people of the valley are full of life. The historical and cultural life is vibrant. The century old traditions of craftsmanship, communities of potters, wood carvers and weavers can be seen by the roadside indulge with their work. The religious spot of Surya Binayak is one of Katmandu's most popular pilgrimage centers.

 

Pokhra
This is one of the lovely and the second best destinations of Nepal. Pokhara is a wonderful settlement with all the features of a tourist destination. Water body, snow capped mountains, scenic beauty and colorful people. This city in central Nepal is situated nearly 198 kilometers west of Kathmandu and can be reached by roadways or airways. It is the capital town of Kaski District. It is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. More than 60 percent of all tourists visiting Nepal visit Pokhra. One has to be there for the start or end of a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp and Mustang. The Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu ranges each with peaks over 8000 meters, can be seen from Pokhara and there is a lake named Phewa Lake, with two caves Mahendra and Gupteswar and an impressive falls named Patale Chhango or Devi / David's Falls.

 

Chitwan
Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the Terai region. It is one of the district of Nepal and one of the tourist hotspot of Nepal. Narayangarh on the bank of Narayani River is the main town of this district. It is famous for its rich flora and fauna. One of the last populations of single - horned Indian Rhinoceros, Panthers / Leopards, crocodiles, pythons, and several kinds of deer live in the Chitwan National Park which is also one of the last refuges of the Royal Bengal tiger. This national parks incorporate grazing, farming, wood gathering and human habitation into their boundaries as well as tourism and trekking. Rara National Park, Royal Bardia National Park, Sagarmatha National Park, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve are some of the other national park
