Kurseong

A must halt for tourist to Darjeeling for snacks or tea. Situated at an altitude of 4860 feet / 1482 mts and it is exactly halfway between Darjeeling and Siliguri. It is a bustling town. A quiet town between Siliguri and Darjeeling noted for its secluded charm and Eagle's Crag, offering a commanding view of the undulating plains below. Places to visit are Eagle's Crag, Deer Park, Forest Museum, Giddhapahar Mandir, Ambotika Shiv Mandir, Makaibari Tea Estate, St.Mary’s Hill, Downhill, Baggora, Netaji Kothi and chimney. Summers (April-June) are mild and winters are cold (November-February). It experiences southwestern monsoon rains in July-September.

Places of Interest: 

Eagle's Crag View Point:  Highly recommended as one of the places to visit in Kurseong and ideal to be visited during both sunrise and sunset, the Eagle's Crag View Point offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley.Overlooking the entire Siliguri plains, one can click excellent photos of the Kanchenjunga from this viewpoint. Visitors can either trek up the winding path or hire a taxi to the top. The view of the rising sun behind the mighty Kanchenjunga is a sight to behold.

Sitong:  Sittong is actually a cluster of villages like 'Khasmahal' in the Darjeeling district and part of Kurseong subdivision. Sittong also known as Sitong is located at an altitude of around 4000 feet however it varies from several places from lower Sittong to upper Sittong. Sitong is one such charming hamlet is on the banks of Riyang River and is surrounded by luxuriant orchards and inhabited mostly by Lepchas. Sitong is also known as the Orange Village because of orange orchards spread across a vast area. It is still one of the unexplored and untouched destination in North Bengal by rampant tourism which is yet to be discovered.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum:  Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose,the museum is located in Netaji's elder brother's residence.It has pictures, documents and articles related to Netaji during his house imprisonment by the British. Today, the museum also acts as an institute for Himalayan Language & Culture Studies and offers excellent views of the valley.Once a temporary residence of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the museum is located in Netaji's elder brother's residence. Chimney Strawberries Golden: Chimney strawberries garden & Park (IOF) is a tourist attraction and garden located in Kurseong, West Bengal.Tiger Hill Sunrise Observatory is 25 km from the farm stay, while Himalayan Mountaineering Institute And Zoological Park is 27 km away.The nearest airport is Bagdogra International Airport, 45 km from Chimney Strawberries Garden & park (IOF).Organic sweet & fresh strawberries garden now, in chimney kurseong.

Deer Park: Situated in Dow Hill and also now known as Dow Hill Eco Park, Deer Park is a recreational attraction for families with their kids. A very simplistic park, it was once famed for its conservation activities of deer and other rare species of small birds and animals. Today, visitors can still enjoy the serene environment, especially brought about by the pine trees shrouded in the winter mist.

Castleton Tea Estate: The tea estate was earlier named Kumseri. There was a building named “Bank Ghar’’, which had the look of a castle and from that building, the place became Castleton.The most renowned of all the gardens of the Goodricke Group is Castleton Tea Estate. The earth, sun, mist and dew bless the mountain slopes to grow the world’s best teas that are in demand around the world.The quality levels are so high that it has fetched world record prices.The main products of Castleton Tea Estate are black tea, green tea, white tea, Muscatel, and Moonlight,which are picked from delicate Chinese bushes. The Darjeeling tea produced here has a rose like fragrance and the unique Muscatel flavour.

Daring Himjeelalayan Railway Museum: There are a total of three DHR museums, the other two in Darjeeling and Sukna. These museums house rare pictures, sketches, miniature structures of trains and also have regular toy train rides to nearby places with a great scenic journey.The indoor exhibition is upstairs in the station building accessed over the footbridge. It is a mixed display of general World Heritage information and DHR artefacts, some of which have been donated by the families of former railway employees.
 
Giddapahar View Point:  Just 1 hr 30 mins from both NJP and Darjeeling a small village Gidda Pahar in Kurseong offers excellent view of Siliguri town and cozy weather with all facilities. Gidda Pahar in Kurseong should be the perfect sojourn for you. It is a picturesque destination, about 47 km from Siliguri.. How to reach Kurseong

By Air
Bagdogra is approximately 40 kms away and is served by regular Indian Airlines and Jet Airways flights from Kolkata and Delhi.

 

By Rail
Kurseong has its own railway station for the Darjeeling Himalayan Heritage railway and is approximately 45 kms from New Jalpaiguri station (NJP).

 

By Road
Kurseong is well connected with Siliguri i.e. approximately 40 kms and is half way between Siliguri and Darjeeling.
