About  : Mirik is a serene destination with pleasant weather, making it an ideal escape for those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst nature. "Mirik," it is indeed a well-known town in the Darjeeling district of the Indian state of West Bengal, not far from the Sikkim border. A hill station in the Darjeeling of West Bengal, Mirik has become a tourist destination for its natural beauty and accessibility. 

 

Climate :  During the months of February, March, November and December you are most likely to experience good weather with pleasant average temperatures that fall between 20 degrees Celsius (68°F) and 26 degrees Celsius (79°F).The beautiful hill station experiences all seasons in full bloom. How to Reach:  The airport closest to Mirik is located about 47 km from the area in Bagdogra in Siliguri. It is a domestic airport and has flights operating between major cities of the country. If there are no direct flights then tourists can take a connecting flight from Kolkata to reach Bagdogra. From the airport prepaid taxis are available to transfer tourists to their preferred destination.New Jalpaiguri is the most important railway junction located about 56 km from Mirik. There is good connectivity between New Jalpaiguri and Mirik and easily accessible by road. Mirik is fairly well connected by road transportation with neighboring towns and cities of area like Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kurseong etc. Taxis, private cars, mini coaches and buses are available for commuting between these areas.From the airport and railways station tourists have to depend upon these modes of transportation to reach Mirik as it is accessible only by roads.


Places of Interest:

The Mirik Lake :  The most prominent place in Mirik, The Sumendu Lake is beautiful, calm and yet invigorating. It is 1.25 kilometres  long. There is an 80-foot  long arch footbridge across the lake called the Indreni Pull. The lake located in Mirik have facilities for boating. One can even witness the Mt. Kanchenjunga from here if there is a clear sky. One of the must-visit places in the heart of Mirik is Sumendu Lake, popularly known as Mirik Lake. It is one of the major attractions of Mirik both for the locals and the tourists.

Pasupati Bazar : A very interesting market, about 15 km away from Mirik is the Pashupati Nagar Market. The market is at the Indo Nepalese border and half of it lies in the neighboring country. Situated on the India-Nepal border, Pashupati Market is a bustling place with lines of shops and street vendors displaying their wares.At a distance of 6 km from Simana Viewpoint, 15 km from Mirik and 29 km from Darjeeling, Pashupati Market is situated at Pashupati Nagar near Mirik. Located on Darjeeling - Mirik Road, it is one of the best places to visit in Mirik. It is specifically known for cheap imported electronic gadgets, jackets, perfumes, cosmetics and clothes that are imported from Thailand. One can get a variety of colorful woolen caps, gloves, socks, jackets, other woolen clothing, footwear, artifacts, and household items.

Bunkulung :  There are a host of reasons that is making this place one of the most sought after places for the tourists. Firstly this is only 1 to 1.5 hours drive from NJP or Bagdogra. That makes it very easily accissible for people who are travelling from Kolkata and also for people staying in major nearby town Siliguri.Secondly, you get to see the real pristine nature here without any commercialization or pollution. If you come here you will be able to experince the lifestyle in a hilly hamlet.Adjacent to Mirik and Darjeeling,Bunkulung is a newfound offbeat destination.Just about 14 km away from to main town Siliguri and about 18 km away from Mirik,the heavwenly abode of Bunkulung is worth visiting one.

Bokar Monasty :  At a distance of 1 km from Mirik Lake and 2 km from Mirik Bus Stop, Bokar Monastery is an ancient Buddhist monastery situated in Mirik. Positioned on the top of a hill, it is one of the biggest monasteries in Mirik and among the top places to visit in Mirik.Bokar Monastery was founded by Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche in 1984. The monastery belongs to the Kagyud order and was the seat of the Venerable Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche. The original intent was to create a small retreat center, but on the request of disciples and lay people Rinpoche began to accept monks for training and the center was transformed in to monastery. The founder passed away in 2004 and the monastery continues to be guided by his close disciple Venerable Khenpo Lodro Donyo Rinpoche. Close to the monastery are sunset and sunrise points that can be visited to watch the brilliant sunrays dance over the town of Mirrik.

Orange Orchards  Another unique and offbeat offering of Mirik are the numerous plantations spread across the cities. The orange orchids are one of the most beautiful plantations you will ever see. And if you are lucky to see them in full bloom, the entire place looks lit up with countless orange bulbs. It offers a pretty view when the season is suitable for oranges’ growth and you can take several snaps while you are here, with the orange trees in background.  If the Himalayas itself is giving you the high, then consider Darjeeling tea coupled with Kanchenjunga, tranquil serenity and the tangy-sweet burst of oranges — enough to kick-start your holiday plans?Sitting in the lap of pristine nature, Sittong turns orange in winter months with its orange blooms.

Mirik Tea Garden : Going to a place in Darjeeling and not seeing a tea estate will leave you trip incomplete. Mirik is full of valley covered in tea bushes. Almost throughout the year, you can see workers picking ripe leaves or watering the bushes. The most fascinating thing about them is that you can walk though the gardens, that is if you don't damage the bushes, with thee bushes growing on either side. Spending an hour or two here will make the rest of your day. 

Mirik Charch : Constructed recently, adjacent to Don Bosco School, the church is one of the few places for Christian worship in Mirik. In addition to its fresh architecture, the location of the church adds to its grandeur.It is a Roman Catholic Charch, which is situated a distance of 1.5 Km from Mirrik Bus Stand. It is one of the most attractive churches in Mirik and one of the most popular tourist places in Mirik.This gorgeous, Roman Catholic church of Mirik is a rather eye-catching edifice. The architecture of this church is quite attractive and can be spotted from anywhere in the town. The beautifully carved shrine is a haven for devotees, and tourists enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the church area. It maintained really well.

Tingling View Point : At a distance of 9 km from Mirik, Tingling Viewpoint is a vantage point situated at Sourenee village near Mirik. Surrounded by three tea gardens, the Tingling View Point is one of the popular tourist attractions and among the best places to experience Mirik Tourism. Tingling Viewpoint gives an astounding view of the surrounding tea gardens, the Mirik Lake and also the beautiful Mirik Valley. The name Tingling comes from the nearby tea estate.  The sprawling tea plantations form a stark contrast to the white snow and blue sky. It is an ideal place for both sunrise and sunset and also one can take some beautiful pictures of the plains as well as the snow-capped hills.
